Jonathan Dichter

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Jonathan moved with his family to Ohio where he focused his studies on the American Judicial System. He graduated in December of 1999 with a political science degree from the University of Akron, in Akron, Ohio.

While preparing for law school, Jonathan spent his evenings honing his speaking skills as a professional stand-up comedian. Jonathan was fortunate enough to work with such well known comics as: Jim Wiggins (from NBC’s Last Comic Standing); Lisa Lampenelli; Jeff Dunham and Bobcat Goldthwaite.

Jonathan moved to Seattle in May 2000, and began the summer session at Seattle University School of Law. Jonathan quickly found an aptitude for argument and a love of criminal law, so he focused his studies in that direction. Jonathan quickly became well-known throughout the law school by first becoming vice-president, then president, of the American Bar Association chapter on campus, and increasing membership to levels that consistently earned him regional awards for service to the Bar. Jonathan graduated in 2003 with honors.

While in school, Jonathan worked as an intern in both the public defense and private defense arenas. After graduating, Jonathan began his career as a public defender for the city of Shoreline, handling over 100 cases a day at times. From the beginning of his career, Jonathan committed himself to becoming one of the most well-respected well-renowned criminal defense attorneys in Western Washington. He works every day to achieve this goal by being more prepared, more knowledgeable, and more aggressive than his peers and his opponents. Jonathan has become known by the legal community and the court staff in almost every local court in Lynnwood, Bothell, Everett, Seattle, Shoreline, Edmonds, and more! His membership in national organizations and continued training keep him on the cutting edge of DUI and Criminal issues in Washington State.

In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys teaching at a local Sunday School, singing at local karaoke bars, producing a weekly internet radio show, running in half marathons, playing poker with friends, spending time with his beautiful wife, Amber, their cat, Samwise, and awaiting the birth of their first child, Elizabeth.

Why should I hire a lawyer at all?

Being charged with any criminal offense is a tremendously frightening thing to go through. Even for minor offenses, you are possibly facing jail time. This is not the time to be brave and try to handle your own problems. This is the time to find an attorney who knows your charges, your courts, and will stand as a shield in front of you. You need someone who can help you navigate this process so that you can hopefully come out with minimal wounds on the other side.

Why should I hire your office?

Dichter Law Office, PLLC, is dedicated to making sure we provide you the best legal defense possible. We focus on our clients and their needs from the very beginning of their cases. Obviously we can’t promise you a result on your case. No one can. But what we do promise is the best efforts of our office at every turn of your case. We promise to bring excellence, experience, empathy, and enthusiasm to every aspect of our practice.

What are your fees?

Every case is different, and will require a different level of work. We will evaluate your case at our free consultation and quote you a fee. This fee will be a flat fee for your entire case, excluding trial. We won’t charge you for trial unless you choose to take your case to trial (since less than 2% of all cases end up at trial, why charge you up front for something we may not do?). Our rates are competitive for the exceptional level of service we provide.

Will you take credit cards? Payments?

Yes we absolutely accept credit cards, checks, and cash. If you are in need of a payment plan, we may be able to work out one that meets your needs at your free consultation. Expect to be asked to guarantee your payments with a credit card, and to put down an initial payment around 30-50% of your total fee.

Do you offer any sort of discounts?

Every case is different, and so every fee is different. However – we routinely will give discounts off our services to the following classes of clients: active duty military; younger defendants in trouble for the first time; clients with multiple cases who hire us for all of them; and more! Call us today for your free consultation!

How do I get ahold of you if I need to talk to you right away?

You can call our office at 425-424-9401 TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY in the event of an emergency. This phone is manned at all hours. Our office is typically open from 9-5 Monday through Friday. We do have evening, morning, and weekend appointments available if necessary.

Will you handle my case where I’ve been charged with ________ in _________ county?

If you have specific questions regarding your case, the best thing you can do is call our office right away to set up your free consultation. We can discuss your case, your options, and determine how to get started giving you the high level of legal service you expect from our office. If your case is located in Snohomish County (Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Bothell, Everett, Arlington, Monroe), King County (Seattle, Kirkland, Shoreline, Burien, Kent), Pierce County (Tacoma, Fife), Thurston County (Olympia), Whatcom County (Bellingham, Blaine) or Kitsap County (Port Orchard, Bremerton) – rest assured – we’ll be able to help. Call now for your free consultation.

What should I do if I get pulled over and have been drinking?

Being pulled over when you’ve been drinking is a tremendously scary occurrence. You should politely hand the officer your license, insurance, and registration. You should hand him one of Jonathan’s business cards (if you have one) which will tell him that you are declining to do any voluntary tests, answer any voluntary questions, and requesting that Jonathan be contacted as soon as possible before the process is continued. Jonathan is available 24 hours a day for these types of emergencies.

Through his years of criminal and DUI defense, Jonathan’s clients have had the following to say about his representation:

“Jonathan Dichter is a highly skilled and professional attorney. He exceeded my expectations in all areas. Strongly recommend him to others.” – D.S., Bellevue, WA

“I am 46 years old and never thought that I would need a lawyer, but then I did. So what did I do, I called the first one in the phone book assuming that all lawyers are the same. Big mistake- all he did was show up and postpones the court date several times. Then I found your firm and after checking around you have a great reputation and I now know why. After one office visit I was already feeling calmer and safer. Jonathan explained the whole process at my level and did not treat me as if I was ignorant because I don’t speak legalease. Then Jonathan worked his magic and made my frustration with the system go away. What could have been a career ending situation was turned into a more then happy moment. I hope to never again need legal service, but if I do, your firm is the only one I will call. I am forever indebted to you and Jonathan for giving my life back.” – B.W. – Burien, WA

“We want to share our positive experience working with Jonathan and his staff in resolving old DUI cases that had not been resolved. After approximately 12 years we discovered that two DUIs were still pending in the state of Washington. New rules allowing and requiring criminal background checks for employment purposes can bring up some interesting things you may have forgotten, or hoped to forget. Jonathan is very knowledgeable about laws current and past, knows the system well, and was able to negotiate and reduce the DUIs to much less harmful charges and much lower fines. At first the legal fees seemed steep but it was well spent as any conviction will have lifelong consequences.” – S.D. – Redmond, WA

“I have never been in trouble with the law before so I never thought I would have to research attorneys for my DUI that I received in July 2008. I met or talked to at least 10 other DUI attorneys before I met with Jonathan. Let me just say HE WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY! He was the first attorney that I felt actually cared about my case and my well being. When talking to Jonathan about my case I could feel his wealth of knowledge, confidence, and determination to do everything possible to fight for my case. I remember that he told me two things at our first meeting: 1) don’t get in trouble and the most important, put all your worries in a backpack and leave them at the door and let me worry about your case. How many attorneys tell you that you can call them anytime 24/7 even if it is 3:00am and you are stressed out? I had a horrible summer because of stressing over the DUI until I met with Jonathan. When I left my initial appointment with him, that was the first time I was happy and relieved and was able to say that everything will be ok. I even cried on the drive home because I felt like I got my life back. Jonathan is very professional and personable and has a true passion for what he does and that is reflected in not just my review, but every other review I read about him.” — M.A. – Shoreline, WA

“Jonathan was courteous, professional, compassionate, and extremely competent. We at first tried to go with the Public Defender. Huge mistake. I highly recommend Jonathan. He was very patient in answering all of my questions, very quick to return phone calls, and very reassuring throughout the process. I can’t say enough about his work, and am happy to give him a very high recommendation.” — C.M. – Lynnwood, WA

“I researched about 10 different attorneys in my area. The first time I got in touch with Jonathan Dichter I felt a weight lifted. He was very comforting and knowledgeable about my situation. If I had any questions or concerns, not only did I speak with him directly but Jonathan contacted me in a timely manner. During the process I never once felt neglected or confused about what was happening. This was my very first experience dealing with an attorney and I would recommend him in a heartbeat. Thank you!!” — A.A. – Snohomish County, WA

“Jonathan, I want to thank you for making a very frightening situation manageable. My son’s case was likely very simple and straightforward for you to handle. The result was the best possible and the experience was one of positive growth for him.” — J.C. – Snohomish County, WA

Asked 2 months ago in DUI

Jonathan's answer: It is vital that you immediately contact an attorney so that your case can be evaluated and your defense prepared. As my colleague noted - your license is already in jeopardy - and you only have 20 days to try to save it. Furthermore, court can include mandatory jail time and more. Look for members of the National College of DUI Defense! Feel free to call me for your FREE CONSULTATION at 425-424-9401

I got an MIP last week, what should i do?: I was at a party, & I was breathalyzed so of course im guilty. But, I have a backround check due for a class next week and a question ask, "have you even been arrested? what should I write? An MIP isnt a fellony right? and also, where it says the date it happened, and all my info, it doesnt say a time that it happened, I know that sometimes when cops mess up in the ticket, it gets dropped automatically. Could this be the case?

Asked 3 months ago in Juvenile

Jonathan's answer: "I was breathalyzer so of course I'm guilty" is the wrong way to think about this case. You need, as both of my colleagues have suggested, skilled legal help to navigate this. Very often, as Mr. Lawrence said, a first offense CAN be dismissed entirely.

Prosecution office: I feel that I was mis informed by the court appointed attorney and that effected my decision and causing hell and finding out that there was better. What person is best to have on side for domestic violence and strong relationship with the prosecution office and does not go just based off the police report with was falsely done and my wife and I have stated? Wife is supposed victim and prosecution officeand not hearing the truth but feel as if since there city police made huge mistake. Feel as if they are trying to hide and push away

Asked 3 months ago in Criminal Defense

Jonathan's answer: If you've already accepted a deal from the prosecutor, and now feel as if you were not informed properly - you may be able to undo whatever it is that you did. You should seek counsel immediately to help you with this.

About Criminal Defense

For many years, I have focused only on criminal defense and DUI related matters. This experience can be used to your advantage when you have been accused of an offense which requires an attorney who knows what works and does not work in defending against criminal charges. My name is Jonathan and my firm is and will remain a criminal defense firm, and I treat my clients with dignity and fight tirelessly to protect their rights.

I represent clients facing charges related to theft crimes, probation violations, suspended licenses, hit and run violations and reckless driving charges. If you have been charged with possession of marijuana or drug paraphernalia, I have the determination and knowledge needed to defend you in court. If or a loved one is charged with a minor in possession offense, I know how tough the consequences of being found guilty can be and use an aggressive approach in court. Whether you are facing a misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor or felony charge, you greatly enhance your chances for a favorable outcome by utilizing the services of a proven Lynnwood criminal defense lawyer.

Acting Quickly to Protect Your Rights

My record of success is based on a solid foundation of preparation and paying close attention to detail, combined with a relentless and determined defense of your case. Not only am I one of the most highly rated criminal defense attorneys in Lynnwood but I have also been asked to sit as a judge pro-tem in some of the Snohomish County courts.

It is to your distinct advantage to hire a skilled defense attorney as quickly as possible. Physical evidence, witness statements and police reports are best reviewed and analyzed when they are fresh. A complete investigation may reveal violations of your rights, improper police procedures, faulty evidence and many others items that can be favorable to your case. I strive towards getting your charges dismissed or reduced where possible. If a trial is necessary, thorough pre-trial investigation and use of our own experts, this can become part of our strategy to fight your charges.

If you are convicted, the consequences can be steep fines, loss of driving privileges, probation or parole and a jail sentence. There is no reason to rely on an inexperienced or unproven attorney when you are fighting for your rights and freedoms.
