Eric E. Vernon
Eric Vernon has been focused on criminal law since 1997. For several years, he worked as a public defender in Missouri; in addition to all levels of felonies, had special assignment to juvenile court. Also was part of committee that established Clay County's Drug Court. A 1995 graduate of St. Louis University School of Law, he is licensed in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. He is a 1986 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and spent eight years of commissioned service afloat and ashore. He is also a previously licensed merchant mariner: Master of Oceans (steam or motor vessels not greater than 1600 GT).
Although I grew up with a lawyer father and an admiration for Atticus Finch, Clarence Darrow and F. Lee Bailey, I can't say I had a burning desire to be a lawyer. As a young and single Coast Guard officer stranded in the gateway to the west, I went to law school at night while guarding our coasts by day.
Law school took a little extra time, as I spent one summer in Operation Desert Storm and a two year sabbatical on a ship in Alaska. After finishing law school I took another detour to work on tug boats in the Caribbean. Eventually, I settled back home in Kansas City and found my calling working for the Missouri Public Defender's Office in Clay County.
The other lawyers and staff at the Public Defender's Office and the many clients taught me the dedication and determination and skills necessary to give my clients the quality of representation and counsel that they deserve.
Since Kevin and I joined forces, I have focused on managing and defending most of our criminal and traffic cases. We work together to prepare for trials. We have found that our differing styles and outlooks are good compliments, and two brains and four hands are always better than one brain and two hands.
I also enjoy working with juveniles who have managed to run afoul of the law, and their exasperated parents.
I like to also add that I was honored to be a part of the committee that created the Clay County Drug Court. I am a big believer in restorative justice and the possibility of redemption. I strongly advocate the mission of the area drug courts, mental health courts and family drug courts. I often work to get clients entered in to the drug courts.
The ethical rules governing lawyer advertising prevent us from describing our successes, lest you assume we are promising to do the same for you. We can commit to doing our best to achieve the best possible outcome for all off our clients. I also make a point of giving all of my clients a straight and honest appraisal of their case and their situation.

If you have been charged with a sex offense — whether you are guilty or not — it is imperative that you hire an attorney that will be relentless in defending your rights and reputation.
A good lawyer can help you limit the damage that arises from being charged with a sex offense. Due to the stigma associated with sex crimes, the public tends to rush toward a judgment and juries tend to opt toward harsh punishment, whether the charge is statutory rape or a violent sex offense.
Attorney Kevin Baldwin is a former prosecutor, while Eric Vernon has always focused on criminal defense. Each has been trying cases for more than a decade.
We understand you are afraid of facing jail time. You are probably also terrified of admitting this charge to your family and dealing with the fallout of being a registered sex offender.
Act quickly to protect your reputation and your freedom. For a free consultation, call (816) 842-1102 or e-mail us now. We represent clients throughout the greater Kansas City metro area in both Missouri and Kansas.
We skillfully handle all sex cases in both state and federal courts, including:
- Statutory rape
- Child molestation
- Child pornography
- Prostitution or soliciting a prostitute
- Sex offender registration violations
Whether you are accused of statutory rape, prostitution or forcible rape, you need and deserve a strong defense. Contact us immediately for a free consultation.Drug Crimes Defense
If you have been charged with a drug offense, whether it was simple drug possession or a drug conspiracy, the time to act is now.
Your freedom is at stake. Even for a minor drug conviction, your reputation, employment or college financial aid could be jeopardized.
At Baldwin & Vernon, Attorneys at Law in Liberty, we have extensive experience defending our clients from drug charges. We represent clients throughout the greater Kansas City metro area in both Missouri and Kansas.

We Handle Local, State and Federal Drug Crimes
We handle a wide variety of drug offenses involving drugs such as methamphetamines, crack, cocaine, marijuana, Ecstasy, GHB and prescription drugs:
- Drug possession
- Drug possession with intent to distribute
- Sale and distribution of drugs
- Manufacturing drugs
- Prescription drug fraud
- Drug trafficking
- Drug importation
- International drug conspiracies
- Gun crimes charged in connection with drugs
The federal sentencing guidelines for drug offenses are harsh. You need an experienced criminal defense attorney to give you an honest assessment of your case and protect your rights. We will work tirelessly to suppress any evidence that was illegally obtained by police from being used against you in court.
We Want to Help You Solve the Real Problem
Often, people who are charged with drug possession or property crimes related to drug use are not career criminals — merely addicts. Several counties in this area, including Jackson, Clay, Lafayette and Ray, have drug courts that pursue "restorative justice" by helping addicts get free of drugs instead of putting them in jail.
We may be able to help you enter these programs, which are designed to help offenders stop using drugs through intensive treatment and follow-up programs. Often, if you can gain entrance to one of these programs, your case will be dismissed.
