Steve was born in Missouri's Bootheel, Kennett, Missouri, in or about 1950. For those not familiar with geography, this is the rough equivalent of being born in Arkansas. He is absolutely no relation to the pro football player of the same name.

Steve is admitted to all the best bars. In addition, he has hoodwinked several court systems into allowing his presence. He is allowed to practice in the Missouri State Courts. On the basis and the testimony of some individuals of dubious character, he was likewise admitted to practice in U.S. Claims Court, U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western District Courts of Missouri.

He attended the University of Missouri. In 1972 the University declared him to be a political scientist and asked him to move along. Never being one to pay attention, he hung around long enough for the law school staff to become fed up with him. The school gave him a Juris Doctor degree in 1976 and asked him to leave.

Steve made it as far as Butler County, where he settled down to practice law. Kennett, which is in Dunklin County, refused to take him back. Once here, he established himself as a member of the Butler County bar. He was elected the president in the year after Daniel Moore, 1981. This unfortunate election is alleged to have given rise to the saying "out of the frying pan and into the fire". In an effort to diversify his contacts outside the area of people who actually know him, he has joined the American Bar Association, the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Association of Trial Lawyers of America and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Steve’s passion is bluegrass music-he learned guitar and mandolin while cutting classes in college- and regularly plays gigs for the hard of hearing in Southeast Mo.

Dianna drew the short straw as his secretary back in 1989.

ABOUT US

Moore, Walsh & Albright L.L.P. maintains a general trial practice. There is more than 80 years of trial experience among the members. Our practice is fairly evenly divided between civil trials and criminal defense.

The firm has defended every type of criminal action including but not limited to: traffic offenses (speeding, driving while revoked, driving while intoxicated), possession of controlled substance, statutory rape, vehicular manslaughter, homicide and capital murder. Once, we even tried a stop sign violation to a jury but that is different story entirely.

Our Civil practice is divided between personal injury and family law. Personal injury actions typically involve automobile accidents and accidents involving dangerous conditions on premises. We represent injured persons. We do not represent insurance companies, school districts, or large corporations. Personal injury is so broad it even includes product liability, work place harassment and discrimination, civil rights violations, and prevailing wage cases. Family law involves divorces, child custody and probate.

Our firm charges flat fees for criminal defense work. On family law matters it is necessary to use an hourly billing system. Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee basis, if we don’t win, there is no fee.

Where we practice is a harder question to nail down. Most of the time, we limit ourselves to practicing in the Southeastern portion of Missouri. While we will occasionally travel, this shows Map our usual haunts.

PRACTICE AREAS

We are trial attorneys. We like courtrooms, judges and rules of evidence. If the truth is told, it is nothing more than story telling confined by arcane rules of narrative. With the introduction of rules, it also means that, often as not, our job is to use the arcane rules to keep the other side from telling their story.

Criminal law has some of the best stories. There is nothing like gun fire, blood and treachery to liven up a narrative. It is criminal law where the rules are often as important as the story. We represent people on everything from speeding tickets to capital murder.

Personal injury is the flip side of criminal law, which is why we like it. Often it is more challenging. When the other side has not broken a law, you need someone to tell your story so it is not just an accident but the result of careless stupidity. Auto accidents or car wrecks are the most common source of injury but careless doctors and their medical malpractice often cause more harm.

Family law has its fair share of backstabbing and sharp dealing. Whether your story involves a marriage slipping into divorce or a child, we can help you get your story out there. With children, it involves not just custody but adoptions and guardianships.

Probate law is closely related. When there is a loved one who is losing their marbles, seeking guardianship over an adult can look a lot like a divorce. At other times, probate law involves sorting through the pieces after an untimely death. Having sometimes picked a losing fight, we can also help you plan your estate to keep it out of probate court.

Employment law and the loss of a job involve similar stories. Given how much effort we put into our work, the loss of job can seem almost as bad as the loss of loved one. We continue to handle discrimination, harassment, Personnel Advisory Board and prevailing wage claim cases.

As we like courtrooms, our practice is generally limited to Southeast Missouri. We can and often have traveled outside this area but primarily we practice in the courthouse within 100 miles of Poplar Bluff. The courthouses in the surrounding counties are located in: Alton, Benton, Bloomfield, Cape Girardeau, Caruthersville, Centerville, Charleston, Doniphan, Eminence, Greenville, Ironton, Kennett, New Madrid, Poplar Bluff, Van Buren, and West Plains.

Here is link to a Map, which will give you a fair idea of the part of Missouri where we practice.
